The end of the 2024 guiding season

What happens when a meticulously planned adventure takes an unexpected turn?

Today on the pod, I reflect on the 2024 guiding season, which took me from Costa Rica to the towering peaks of Kilimanjaro, as well as adventures in Alaska, Yellowstone, and the Salcantay Trail in Peru.

Four countries and three different continents!

56 of you joined us for epic adventures.

We spent 35 days together on adventures.

We laughed, cried, tested our bodies to the limit, hobbled on blisters, hiked uphill and down, danced in the rain, basked in the sunshine, ate meals in tents at 15,000 feet, and reached new elevation records.

We ziplined through the jungle, rode horses, had a true Alaskan spa day, walked, talked, smiled, ate high popcorn and chips shaped like llamas, and drank our body weight in hot cocoa and maybe one too many vodka sodas at a dive bar in Seward, Alaska.

We traveled on planes, in trains, buses, and vans, and on the water in boats, kayaks, and rafts.

We partied with our Tanzanian friends and high-fived our Peruvian friends.

We slept in tents, hotel rooms, river lodges, and on the side of mountains.

We've gone from sea level to 19,341 feet.

We've been grateful for the support of dozens of guides and nearly a hundred porters and horsemen.

I can't tell you how many miles we've hiked together or how much elevation we've gained (and lost), but it was a lot.

It's been the best year I've had in a long time.
